As soon as I dropped it a bit the problems disappeared and so far the black screen has not returned. I'm not sure how these specifically caused the crashes; but I'm surprised that I didn't figure it out sooner considering that the solution to similar problems was related to monitoring software. But recently this problem has come along and stumped me for 2 days straight. Generally during some sort of intense activity, usually gaming. In particular I have noticed that the crash also often occurs as I alt-tab out or exit the game. Or could this be a symptom of PSU failure? Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.
NVIDIA is supposed to apply a fix for that in their next WHQL driver this month. Still really annoying. For the last few months I have been getting these crashes where my screen goes black (monitor LED goes orange. have a peek here I've run memtest for about 30 minutes with no errors.
I can't install a newer driver version due to the fact that any newer version causes extreme screen flicker in BFBC2. Using the site is easy and fun. When your game goes black yet still displays the HUD do the following.

But I often either get the black or a blue tint. I then upgraded to Windows 10 (doubt it was a causal factor but I thought I would add this detail) and the system was generally stable. Interestingly, when stress testing the crash has never occurred during the stress tests.
