Microsoft hasn't updated their web page at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/949104 in over 2 years and still show the latest version as 7.6.7600.256. This worked when all else had failed. So glad I found this thread, and many thanks, again, for all the helpful suggestions! If I open it in "InPrivate", the page comes up.

I had 200 updates ready to install in under 15 minutes. Microsoft Windows 7 Update Click the drop down menu, select "Never check for updates (not recommended)" Also important to restart the computer after each update. You have to first install the April 2015 Servicing Stack Update first. sections below before moving on to the troubleshooting steps!

This should result in less updates to install after you've installed the large Convenience Rollup package. check over here I found your solution 6/23/16. Once I could identified SP1 I unchecked all other update and only check SP1 and chose update. April 2015 Servicing Stack Update I think I need that Update. I am former corporate IT tech with 15 yrs and 1000s hours of experience for end user workstations/new/problem children/etc.
It is now running faster and quieter than for years.

W7 came loaded on my Dell pc, so I can't get the reinstall from Microsoft. When i was trying copy and paste something doc, img anything... I have tried and tried so many “fixes” and nothing worked; only you’re well detailed and to the point instructions got the windows update program running perfectly! The KB will then start to progress.

Whatever problem the update(s) caused could clear itself up with a simple power off and power on.Chances are you've already done this several times but if not, give it a try.Tip: Around 3 or 4 were already installed on the computer, but the missing ones did the trick.

But that's for a different reason. dbp Manual install KB3172605 alone saved me! So I followed every step as described. why does it not just install the damn update?
In the new window that was opened, change Startup Type to Manual 4. Finally i was format the disk and make a new installation. Even though the rollup seemed to install fine, it still would not pick any more updates afterwards and does not install IE 11.
